Teen Killed at Curve on FM 1130
An 18 year old has been killed and another person hurt in a head-on collision on FM 1130 in Orange County.
Capt. Keith Longlois with the Orange Police Department says Jonathan Minchew, 18, of Orange, was killed, and David Carthel, 38, of Orange, was hurt in the head-on collision at about 10 p.m. Tuesday in the 8500 block of FM 1130 in Orange, near Ben Mac Road, along an area known as Stephenson's Curve.
Capt. Longlois says Carthel was traveling north in a 1993 white Jeep Cherokee, when his vehicle crossed the center line and moved into the path of a green 1994 Ford Taurus driven by Minchew.
Carthel was transported to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth by a medical helicopter. The full extent of his injuries aren't known.
The Orange Fire Department used the jaws of life to free Carthel from the wreckage.
Minchew was pronounced dead by Judge Joe F. Parkhurst, Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace.
The accident remains under investigation by the Orange Police Department.
